Team GB win third medal of Sochi 2014 with women's curling bronze

Great Britain's women's curling team defeat Switzerland 6-5 to claim the bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Great Britain have won their third medal of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, with the women's curling team defeating Switzerland in the bronze medal match.

Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton pipped the Swiss 6-5, following a solid performance after the half-time break.

The team started poorly with Sloan and Adams both feeling pressure and making mistakes. Swiss skip Mirjam Ott was on top form, however, and gave her side a 2-0 lead.

A nice draw from skip Muirhead cut the deficit to one, before she levelled it up at 3-3 when Team GB took two points in the fifth end. More errors on both sides from Sloan and then Ott saw Great Britain 4-3 down with three ends remaining.

Sloan upped her game in the eighth and allowed Muirhead to score two to give the Brits the lead for the first time in the match. In the ninth end Team GB excelled, with a series of shots forcing Ott to settle for just a single point and relinquish the hammer for the final end of the contest.

Ott left a stone in a nice position in a cagey last end, but Muirhead stepped up and put one on the button to hand her team the bronze.

With an average age of 23, this is the youngest team to ever win an Olympic curling medal.
