Team GB's Elise Christie disqualified for third time

Elise Christie fails to qualify for the women's 1,000m speed skating final, following a controversial penalisation at the semi-final stage.

Great Britain speed skater Elise Christie has failed to qualify for the women's 1,000m final following a controversial decision to penalise her for impeding a rival.

Christie, who advanced to the semi-final stage courtesy of a first-place finish in her quarter-final race, stormed from the back of the field into second position, before being taken down by Li Jianrou of China.

The judges consulted before decided to penalise both Christie and Li, with South Korea's Shim Suk-Hee and Fan Kexin of China advancing through to the final to join Jessica Smith and Park Seung-Hi of the United States and South Korea respectively.

Christie was previously stripped of her silver medal in the 500m event after being disqualified, before also missing out in the 1,500m.
