Nicky Gooch: 'Elise Christie is a complete skater'

Elise Christie is a "complete skater" and may change her pacesetting tactics when she goes for a medal in the 1,000m event in Sochi, according to her coach Nicky Gooch.

Elise Christie's coach Nicky Gooch has hinted that the Team GB skater could abandon her pacesetting approach when she competes in the 1,000m races in Sochi.

The 23-year-old often likes to lead from the front but has been disqualified in the 500m and 1,500m events so far at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Gooch has revealed that they have been working on alternative tactics and has suggested that Christie may implement them when she has another shot at a medal over her preferred distance on Friday.

"She is just focused on doing her best, getting the tactics right and keeping her head straight," Gooch told reporters.

"We've worked to bring more dimensions to her tactics and make her a more complete skater, and taken some of the predictability out – she's a strong skater and last year was racing from the front, and people soon worked that out.

"We've added to her locker; she is not as predictable. She can develop tactics as the race develops. Every race can be different and she has the skills to adapt now."

Christie picked up a bronze medal over 1,000m at the 2013 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Debrecen.
