Bex Wilson bemoans "really difficult" year

Team GB's Bex Wilson admits that she has experienced a "really difficult" year.

Great Britain's Bex Wilson has admitted that she has experienced a "really difficult" year in the build-up to the Winter Olympics.

The 22-year-old, who will partner Paula Walker in the bobsleigh event, has spent the past 12 months attempting to make herself physically and mentally tougher.

Having overcome former world champion Gillian Cooke for a place at the Games, Wilson said that she still has to prove herself in Sochi.

"It's been a really difficult year, really difficult," Wilson told Team GB's official website. "[Cooke] is a fantastic athlete and I knew last year if I was going to make the step up to get back in that seat with Paula that I had to do something special.

"I took a year out from the sport, went back home to Manchester, kept myself to myself, knuckled down and trained hard so I could come back and be the best athlete I could be. [Cooke is] a fantastic athlete but luckily I managed to jump up and get that number one spot.

"I increased everything in the gym – I made sure that I got faster and mentally stronger. I just had this dream of what it was to have the Olympics in my sights. Thankfully that's become a reality but now it is about performing in Sochi and being successful."

Partner Walker had earlier said that she will see how successful Team GB are this week before deciding if she will continue on to the 2018 Games.
