Great Britain short track skater Jack Whelbourne has sent an encouraging tweet to fellow athlete Elise Christie, who was stripped of a silver medal in the short track 500m women's speed skating final earlier today.
During her first lap, the 23-year-old nudged into Italy's Arianna Fontana, who in turn wiped out South Korea's Park Sueng-Hi in the process.
Whelbourne, who is dating the Livingston-born speed skater, tweeted a message of encouragement to his distraught girlfriend, who was penalised for the incident and saw the silver medal taken off her.
My girlfriend @Elise_Christie is #NotAMedalistButAWinner that what shorttrack champions do #SmileItMakesYouBeautyful #champion #MyHero

China's Li Janrou won the gold medal, while Fontana was moved up to second place following Christie's disqualification. Park took bronze.
