Former Olympic speed skater Wilf O'Reilly has called for an alteration to the rules within the sport, after Elise Christie was stripped of a silver medal at Sochi 2014.
Christie caused a three-woman collision during the 500m short track final and despite finishing second, she shortly had her positioning declared void, resulting in a lost medal.
However, O'Reilly - who was commentating on the race for BBC Sport - felt that the decision was a cruel one against Christie, declaring that it is time for things to change.
He said: "I think the sport needs to review its regulations for incidents like this that happen so early on in the race. It's a cruel blow when that happens on the first lap."
Christie will be back in speed skating action next week, when her favoured 1,000m event takes place.
