Lara Gut: 'Sochi conditions a disaster'

Switzerland's Lara Gut criticises the conditions of the Rosa Khutor piste after finishing fourth in the women's super-G event, describing them as a "disaster".

Switzerland's Lara Gut has criticised the Rosa Khutor piste conditions at the Sochi Winter Olympics after finishing fourth in the women's super-G event, describing them as a "disaster".

Eight of the first 11 starters, and 18 racers in a field of 49, failed to reach the finish line, and the 22-year-old claimed that the lack of snow at the bottom is partly to blame for the issues.

Gut told BBC Sport: "There is no snow at the bottom, it's not funny any more.

"This is a disaster, it was a shame for everybody. The last part was a bit much. Everybody was crashing around. It's difficult to stay on your skis, you are constantly losing them. I don't know if this is the best way to show off our skiing.

"It's not a race, you are just trying to come down."

The event saw previously unheralded Austrian Anna Fenninger win the gold medal.
