Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia wins gold in today's women's biathlon 7.5km sprint at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia has won gold in the women's biathlon 7.5km sprint at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The Russian-born 29-year-old came in at a time of 21:06.8, defeating Olga Vilukhina, her closest competitor, by nearly 20 seconds.

Kuzmina's first-place finish means that she has retained her Olympic gold medal after coming in pole position at the 2010 Games in Vancouver.

Vilukhina took silver to give Russia their second medal of the tournament, while Vita Semerenko of Ukraine came in third to secure bronze and Amanda Lightfoot of Great Britain finished 75th.
