Slovakia's Anastasiya Kuzmina: Winning gold "a big thing"

Slovakia's Anastasiya Kuzmina says that she is delighted to have won a gold medal in her "homeland" Russia on Sunday.

Anastasiya Kuzmina has said that she is delighted to have won the gold medal in the women's 7.5km biathlon sprint at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The 29-year-old was born in the 2014 Games' host country, but took a Slovakian passport in 2008 through marriage because she was not allowed by the Russian team to take her child to training camps.

"Winning this medal in my homeland is a big thing, yes," Reuters quotes her as saying. "I have a Slovakian passport but I'm a Russian national.

"Here I'm at home. The atmosphere is so familiar. Everyone is so supportive, I feel so comfortable here."

Russia's Olga Vilukhina won silver, while Vita Semerenko of Ukraine clinched the bronze medal.
