Russia accused of cheating in men's luge doubles

Canada coach Wolfgang Staudinger accuses Russia of cheating in the men's doubles luge at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Canada coach Wolfgang Staudinger has said that Russia have been cheating in the men's luge doubles by tampering with the track at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Staudinger said that the Russians warmed the bottom of the track using pipes set into the ice to slow times of rivals after their team finished their run.

He told the Toronto Star: "Canada was silver at the top but the further we went down the slower we got and that's a clear sign that the track slowed down dramatically.

"It's always hard to prove, but I've spent long enough in the business that I can tell you when people, especially the Austrians who won silver yesterday, were dropping half a second, that's not normal."

The Canadian team finished fourth by just one-tenth of a second.
