Alpine skiing favourites miss out on medal

Aksel Lund Svindal and Bode Miller fail to make the top three of the downhill ski event at the 2014 Sochi Games.

Alpine favourites Aksel Lund Svindal and Bode Miller have missed out on a top-three finish in the men's downhill skiing event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Austrian skier Matthias Mayer, who recorded a time of 2 minutes and 6.23 seconds, came out on top, while Christof Innerhofer of Italy completed the Rosa Khutor course 0.06 seconds later to take silver.

It was another Norwegian, Kjetil Jansrud, who completed the top three with a time 0.10 seconds behind the leader.

Svindal and Miller finished fourth and eighth respectively.
