Team GB's Matthew Parr 'proud to have competed in Olympics'

Team GB figure skater Matthew Parr says that he is "proud" to have competed at an Olympic tournament for his country after coming ninth in today's figure skating event.

Team GB figure skater Matthew Parr has declared that he feels "proud" to have competed at an Olympic tournament for his country after taking part in the Sochi Winter Games.

The 23-year-old, who finished ninth in the figure skating men's short program earlier today, also said that he is pleased to have beaten his personal best in today's event.

"It couldn't have gone better for me, my goal was to get a personal best and I've achieved that. I'm very pleased and it went as well as I could have hoped," Parr told reporters.

"The build-up has been intense because this is what I've been aiming to do since I was a kid. It was a nice release to have finished and put in a performance that I'll be proud of. In years to come I can look back and say I did as well as I could.

"This everything I've ever wanted as an athlete and to be able to say I've competed at an Olympic Games for my country is a very proud moment that I will treasure forever."

Japan, the Russian Federation and Canada finished first, second and third respectively in today's event.
