Germany skier Carina Vogt has revealed that she was amazed to win the gold medal in the first ever women's ski jumping event in the Winter Olympics.
The 22-year-old, who won bronze in the World Championships in 2013, beat out the favoured Japanese skier Sara Takanashi to win the competition as he secured a total score of 247.4 from her two jumps.
"It's amazing," she told reporters. "I wouldn't have thought it was possible three hours ago. I'm the first woman champion in ski jumping."
Vogt's medal was Germany's fourth gold medal of the Games.
