Gold medallist criticises Sochi piste

German Winter Olympics skier Maria Hoefl-Riesch criticises the alpine course at Sochi, claiming it is 'too slow'.

Winter Olympics skier Maria Hoefl-Riesch has criticised the alpine course at Sochi, claiming that it is "too slow".

The German, who won double gold medals in Vancouver in the slalom and combined disciplines, acknowledged that some changes needed to be made to one of the jumps in the Rosa Khutor piste after complaints from other competitors, but that some alterations ended up being "over the top".

"I think it's a bit over the top to move the gate around before the jump they reduced yesterday, and add even more curves to the track, because it wasn't fast anyway yesterday," Hoefl-Riesch said, according to The AP.

"The jump was not a good one, but the pace wasn't too fast. But now they've reduced the pace even more, so that part is not a downhill. It's too slow – not a downhill."

The women's super combined downhill and women's super combined slalom events both take place on Monday, February 10.
