Serena Williams: 'Margarita Gasparyan should be proud of performance'

Serena Williams says that her Wimbledon first-round opponent Margarita Gasparyan should be "proud" of her performance.

World number one Serena Williams has told her Wimbledon first-round opponent Margarita Gasparyan that she should be "proud" of her performance.

The 33-year-old, who is on course to win all four Grand Slams in a single year, dropped her opening serve of the first set, but bounced back to claim a 6-4 6-1 victory.

After the match, Williams told reporters: "I didnt think she was going to be that good - she should be proud, she's really good. She came out so incredibly fast."

The 20-time Grand Slam champion will face Timea Babos in the second round.
