John McEnroe hints at need for 'fresh blood' in Rafael Nadal's coaching camp

Former world number one John McEnroe hints that Rafael Nadal may need to make changes in his coaching camp following his surprise Wimbledon defeat to Dustin Brown.

Former world number one John McEnroe has hinted that Rafael Nadal should move on from his coach and uncle Toni Nadal following his shock Wimbledon defeat at the hands of maverick Dustin Brown.

Nadal was eliminated from the tournament on Thursday evening as his German opponent battled to a 7-5 3-6 6-4 6-4 victory on Centre Court, and McEnroe has since suggested that the number 10 seed may need to change things around in his camp.

"Rafael Nadal is one of the great champions - a class act," McEnroe told BBC Radio 5 live.

"He plays with a lot of effort and energy but, dare we say, is it time for some fresh blood in the Nadal camp? Can we say that? Uncle Toni's going to be upset."

Nadal has since admitted that his defeat proved to be a "bad moment" in his career.
