Sara Errani edges past Mirjana Lucic-Baroni

Sara Errani seals her place in the quarter-finals of the US Open with victory over Mirjana Lucic-Baroni to set up a clash with Caroline Wozniacki.

Number 13 seed Sara Errani has advanced to the quarter-finals of the US Open with victory over Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in three sets.

The Italian managed to survive an onslaught of winners from Lucic-Baroni in the first set and broke the Croat three times to secure a 6-3 victory.

In the second set, Lucic-Baroni used her power play to great effect as she wrestled the advantage away from the 27-year-old and took the set 6-2 to send the match to a decider.

Errani found her game once more as the Croat made several unforced errors, allowing the Italian to cruise into the last eight with a 6-0 victory.

The Italian will now play number 10 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
