Former world number one Ana Ivanovic makes 56 unforced errors before overcoming American youngster Sloane Stephens in three sets at the US Open.

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic has knocked 19-year-old American Sloane Stephens out of the US Open at the third-round stage for the second consecutive year.

The 12th seed was far from at her best and made 56 errors before eventually prevailing 6-7 6-4 6-2 in 141 minutes.

Stephens, who is ranked 44th in the world, made 10 double faults.

Ivanovic will be aiming to reach her first Grand Slam quarter-final since 2008 when she faces Tsvetana Pironkova in round four.
