Serena Williams named US Open top seed

World number one Serena Williams is named as women's top seed for this year's US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Serena Williams has been announced as the women's top seed for next week's US Open.

The world number one will be looking to win her third successive title at Flushing Meadows when the tournament gets underway on Monday.

French Open runner-up Simona Halep is seeded second, while Petra Kvitova is third following her recent Wimbledon triumph.

Meanwhile, British duo Heather Watson and Johanna Konta will discover their first-round opponents later today.
