James Ward has admitted his form has been "tough" but has claimed that he is getting back to his best despite a first-round US Open exit on Tuesday.
The Briton was beaten 6-1 7-5 6-3 by Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci for his ninth successive defeat, having defied expectation to reach the third round at SW19 in July.
"Obviously it's been tough," Ward is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "I've played in six of the top tournaments in the world.
"The last few weeks have been really good. I've been playing at a great level and I've been practising really well."
The 28-year-old now prepares for a Davis Cup semi-final with Australia next month.
