Former world number one Venus Williams expresses her delight at the way she served during her US Open encounter against Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

America's Venus Williams has admitted that she was pleased with the way that she served during her opening match of this year's US Open earlier today.

The former world number one served five aces on her way to defeating her compatriot Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3 6-1 at Flushing Meadows.

Having also won 83% of the points on her first service, Williams felt that it gave her the perfect platform to record the victory.

"I was really happy with my serve today," Williams told reporters. "To have easy games on my serve was good.

"We've had some tough matches in the past. I'm glad it was more straightforward today."

Williams is currently ranked 46th in the world standings.
