Mark Petchey hails "high quality" Andy Murray

Andy Murray played some "high quality" tennis in his win over Novak Djokovic, says former coach Mark Petchey.

Andy Murray's former coach Mark Petchey has heaped praise on the world number two for the manner of his win over Novak Djokovic.

The 28-year-old claimed the Rogers Cup with a 6-4 4-6 6-3 win in Montreal, and Petchey is excited ahead of the US Open later this month after seeing him play "high quality" tennis.

He told Sky Sports News: "I would have said that the biggest thing to take from the match was getting over the mental hurdle of beating Djokovic. But Murray's tennis was of such a high quality.

"Beating Djokovic in the build-up to the US Open is what he wanted but, ultimately, winning in the way that he won would have given him even deeper satisfaction. It's something for Novak to mull over, too.

"Winning takes care of everything but winning in style is even better. That's an important benefit to the win."

Murray will compete in the Cincinnati Masters this week.
