Heather Watson knocked out of Korea Open in first round

Heather Watson is knocked out of the Korea Open in the first round by American qualifier Nicole Gibbs.

Britain's Heather Watson has failed to get past the first round of the Korea Open after stumbling to a straight-sets defeat against Nicole Gibbs.

The 22-year-old, who was seeded eighth for the tournament, succumbed to a 7-5 6-2 loss at the hands of the American qualifier, who is ranked 55 places lower than the Brit.

Watson could only secure one break point out of seven opportunities in the first set, and was also broken twice as Gibbs took the lead.

In the second set, the Brit failed to convert a break opportunity once again and her American opponent landed a double break to progress into the next round.

Watson was also knocked out in the first round of the US Open in New York last month.
