Serena Williams through after Anna-Lena Friedsam test

Serena Williams is through to the third round of the French Open after beating Anna-Lena Friedsam 5-7 6-3 6-3.

Serena Williams fought from a set down to beat Anna-Lena Friedsam 5-7 6-3 6-3 and reach the third round of the French Open this afternoon.

There were five breaks of serve in the first set, including the first two games, and Friedsam held her nerve to win 7-5.

However, Williams hit back, and the world number one battled to take the second set 6-3.

In the final set, the American broke in both the first and final games to claim a hard-earned victory.

Williams will face either Victoria Azarenka or Lucie Hradecka in the next round.
