The second seed outclassed his Bosnian opponent before wrapping up a 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory at Roland Garros.

Federer, the 2009 champion, eased through to this stage with wins over Alejandro Falla and Marcel Granollers, and he quickly signalled his intent to reach the last 16 with one break of serve in the first set.

The former world number one struck a further three times on the way to taking the second, but Dzumhur, the world number 88, was keeping the Swiss honest and created five break-point chances of his own.

However, he couldn't build on that improvement in the third as Federer quickly established a three-game advantage, and the 33-year-old had little problem in sealing the win on Philippe Chatrier.
