Alex Corretja takes helm with Spain

Andy Murray's former right-hand man Alex Corretja is confirmed as the new captain of Davis Cup champions Spain.

Andy Murray's former right-hand man Alex Corretja has been named the new captain of Spain's Davis Cup team.

The 37-year-old acted as Murray's coaching consultant, primarily for the clay court season, for three years before the pair parted company earlier this year.

He succeeds Albert Costa and takes charge of the reigning Davis Cup champions following their success earlier this month against Argentina.

"It's a privilege to be able to captain the best team of players in the world," the former French Open finalist said.

Corretja's first game in charge will be the home tie against Kazakhstan in February.
