Tommy Robredo edges out Lukas Rosol in five-set battle

Tommy Robredo edges into the Australian Open second round by winning a thrilling five-set encounter against Lukas Rosol.

Tommy Robredo has booked his place in the second round of the Australian Open by securing a 6-1 6-7(9) 3-6 7-6(5) 8-6 victory over Lukas Rosol.

Robredo had a strong start to the five-set thriller by grabbing three break points and taking advantage of Rosol's three double faults on Court 13 in Melbourne.

It initially appeared that Robredo would ease into the next round, but Rosol made it difficult for him by scoring 26 winners in the second set and forcing it to a tie-break, which he edged 9-7.

Rosol then began to take control of proceedings by getting a crucial break to take a 2-1 set-lead before Robredo fought back in another tie-break to draw level.

Despite some impressive play from Rosol in the fifth set, it was Robredo who managed to edge in front and win it 8-6 and progress into the next phase.
