Maria Sharapova: 'Whitewash is not important'

Maria Sharapova wants to be known for winning Grand Slam titles, not the 'double bagel' she has completed in consecutive matches.

Maria Sharapova has insisted that winning 6-0 6-0 is not important to her.

Sharapova beat Misaki Doi this morning without dropping a game, having dismissed Olga Puchkova by the same score in round one.

In doing so, Sharapova became the first woman since 1985 to do consecutive 'double bagels' in Grand Slam play.

"Without looking at the scoreboard, I don't want anyone to know what score it is just by looking at my face or my attitude," she said afterwards.

"I try to play every single point like I really need to win it.

"It's not really the statistic that I want to be known for. I want to be known for winning grand slam titles, not winning two games 6-0 6-0."

Sharapova will play either Venus Williams or Alize Cornet in round three.
