Laura Robson believes that she is feeling the benefits of a strict training regime during the Christmas break with a bright start at the Australian Open.

British teenage sensation Laura Robson has declared that she feels stronger and is able to hit the ball harder thanks to working on her fitness through the Christmas break.

Robson is under the guidance of Croatian coach Zeljko Krajan and believes that she will continue to be more consistent and reap the rewards of stepping things up in training.

"With strength work, it's easy to see the difference in every session," she said. "From when I started after Osaka [in October] to when I'd finished was a huge difference, so I'll keep going.

"I can hit it pretty hard these days but I think the key is just moving around the ball enough to be able to hit it where I want to. I think it's good that I've always managed to play pretty well in slams, but I think ideally I'd like to play a bit more consistently in the smaller tournaments as well, so that's something that I need to work on.

"In slams I think it's very easy to go on court with nothing to lose and I always have great support, so it's very easy to play at slams. But consistency throughout the year is what counts."

The 18-year-old goes up against former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in Melbourne later today.
