Dan Evans advances to the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open on Friday, but Harriet Dart, Ryan Peniston and Liam Broady all bow out.

Men's top seed Dan Evans has been left as Great Britain's only hope in the Nottingham Open singles event after a tough day for the home favourites.

Evans's strong start to the grass-court season continued as he advanced to the semi-finals courtesy of a 6-4 6-4 victory over Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland.

GB started the day with three representatives in the men's quarter-finals, but only Evans will contest the last four following defeats for Liam Broady and Ryan Peniston.

Peniston was swept aside 3-6 4-6 by Australia's Alexei Popyrin, while Broady lost 6-7 6-1 4-6 to the USA's Jack Sock, who faces Evans in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Harriet Dart could not back up her first WTA Tour quarter-final appearance with another win as she went down in three sets to Alison Riske.

Dart began the contest on the front foot before her serves let her down - posting just a 48% success rate on first serves and losing 6-4 2-6 1-6 to the American.

Top seed Maria Sakkari also lost in fiery fashion to Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia 4-6 6-4 3-6, during which she had some choice words to the umpire about her opponent's antics.

Haddad Maia faces Tereza Martincova for a spot in the women's final, while Riske faces a semi-final showdown with Viktorija Golubic.
