Paul Drinkhall loses out on table tennis bronze at Baku 2015

Team GB's Paul Drinkhall tastes defeat against Lei Kou in the bronze-medal final to bring his European Games campaign to a disappointing close.

Great Britain's Paul Drinkhall has missed out on a podium spot at the inaugural European Games, having been defeated 4-2 by Lei Kou in the men's table tennis bronze-medal match.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games medallist, who fell to an identical semi-final loss against Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov earlier today, let slip a one-game lead at the Baku Sports Hall.

After taking the opener 11-5, the 25-year-old lost 11-7 in successive games before seeing the fourth go 11-5 in his Ukrainian opponent's favour.

Drinkhall was soon back in it, though, taking the fifth game 11-5 in the space of five minutes to make it 3-2 overall. However, Lei edged a mammoth final game 22-20 to seal the bronze medal.

Ovtcharov will take on Belarusian hopeful Vladimir Samsonov in this evening's gold-medal match.
