Great Britain's Paul Drinkhall suffers men's semi-final table tennis defeat

Great Britain's Paul Drinkhall suffers defeat in his men's table tennis semi-final against Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov at the European Games in Baku.

Great Britain table tennis hopeful Paul Drinkhall has suffered defeat in the semi-finals of the men's table tennis at the European Games after being beaten by Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany.

Drinkhall had looked in promising form having taken games one and three of the event's opening matches, but Ovtcharov eventually proved too strong as he came back to take the last three games with 11-6, 11-7 and 11-3 victories.

The turning point in the contest perhaps arrived when Britain's contender threw away a three-point lead in game four, with Ovtcharov also edging his opponent with points won off his own serve.

Great Britain currently hold eighth place in the medals table, which is led by Russian Federation.
