Ben Proud has failed to medal for Great Britain in the 50m butterfly final at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

The 20-year-old, who won European bronze in this event last year, faced a hotly-contested field in the showdown.

Proud lost time in the start and was the last swimmer to touch the wall in 23.39 seconds, while France's Florent Manaudou took gold in 22.97s.

Brazil's Nicholas Santos claimed a silver medal, while Hungary's Laszlo Cseh grabbed the final spot on the podium.
