British duo Ben Proud and Calum Jarvis have failed to make it through to tonight's 100m freestyle semi-finals at the World Championships in Kazan after finishing out of the top 16.
In the penultimate heat, 20-year-old Proud kept himself close to the leaders in the first 50m, but he fell back down the field in the final stretch to touch the wall in eighth place.
A time of 49.35s was not enough for the double Commonwealth champion to qualify, while his teammate Jarvis also had a disappointing swim as he was a little off the pace and finished ninth in his heat in 49.68s.
China's Ning Zetao clocked the fastest time of 48.11s.
