Cameron van der Burgh sets new 50m world record, Adam Peaty through to semis

South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh sets a new world record in the 50m breaststroke heats in Kazan, while GB's Adam Peaty eases into the semi-finals.

South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh has smashed his own world record in the 50m breaststroke heats to ease into tonight's semi-finals at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Great Britain's Adam Peaty also comfortably qualified and will head into the showdown second fastest in the field.

In heat seven, Van der Burgh led from start to finish and equalled Peaty's unofficial world record of 26.62s.

Shortly afterwards, Peaty, who won gold in the 100m breaststroke final on Monday night, surged to the front of the pack in heat nine to touch the wall first in 26.68s.
