Scotland swimmer Ross Murdoch focused on next race following gold medal victory

Ross Murdoch insists that his gold medal victory in the 200m breaststroke final is almost forgotten as he prepares for his next Commonwealth Games race.

Team Scotland swimmer Ross Murdoch has insisted that he is already focusing on his next challenge after upsetting the odds by winning Commonwealth gold in the 200m breaststroke in Glasgow on Thursday evening.

The 20-year-old secured a new Commonwealth record by beating home favourite Michael Jamieson in 2:07.30.

After winning his first race of the Games, the Scotsman will compete in the 100m breaststroke, 4x100m medley relay and the 50m breaststroke.

"It's given me a lot of confidence for the rest of the week," Murdoch told reporters. "It's something that I'm thinking about, I'm not thinking about too much this victory tonight, it's more about going to be the week as a whole.

"So, I've got to get myself swam down and prepare for the next race. I'll be back in tomorrow morning for the 100m breaststroke and then the rest of the week after that."

Jamieson scooped silver in the 200m event, while England's Andrew Willis secured bronze.
