Mark Foster: 'Ross Murdoch is the new Michael Jamieson'

Mark Foster says that Ross Murdoch has usurped Michael Jamieson as Scotland's swimming poster boy following his Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Ross Murdoch can replace Michael Jamieson as the poster boy for Scottish swimming after beating the Olympian in the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, according to Mark Foster.

The 20-year-old stunned Glasgow by pipping the much-fancied Olympic silver medallist to the gold in the 200m breaststroke on day one of the Games.

"When Ross Murdoch won last night it was almost as if the crowd were not sure what to do," he told BBC Sport.

"As much as they loved that a Scot won, it was always supposed to be about Michael Jamieson. He was the poster boy and there was so much pressure on him.

"Ross's face at the end, he was so surprised. That race has taken him, overnight, from not being known to now being the man to beat. Ross now is the new Michael."

The two will face off once again today in the heats for the 100m breaststroke.
