Youngest Commonwealth Games medallist: 'Crowd spurred me on'

Erraid Davies says that the roar of Scottish supporters helped her to become the youngest ever Commonwealth Games medallist in Glasgow last night.

The youngest ever medallist at the Commonwealth Games has revealed that encouragement from home supporters in Glasgow pushed her on for a bronze medal.

Scotland's Erraid Davies, 13, made history by finishing third in the women's Para-sport 100m breaststroke SB9 final last night.

"I could hear the crowd in the last 25m. I think it spurred me on an awful lot," Davies told STV. "It was a five-second personal best overall. I got four-second in the heat and then went a second faster in the final."

She added: "I was just so happy. I did not expect it at all. I started swimming when I was four because my doctor told me it would be good for my hip, and I just kind of love it."

Sophie Pascoe won the race with a time of 1:19.36.
