Reigning world champion James Magnussen led the way for his country to take gold in a time of 48.11s, while Cameron McEvoy picked up silver.

Bronze was won by Tommaso D'Orsogna to complete the one-two-three at the Emirates Arena, meaning there was to be no joy for England duo Adam Brown and James Disney-May, who finished in sixth and eighth respectively.

Australia lead the way in the 2014 Commonwealths medal table with 65 overall.
