England swimmer Aimee Willmott expected tough test in 400m freestyle

Team England swimmer Aimee Willmott admits that she was always expecting the 400m freestyle heat to be tough following a busy week in Glasgow.

Team England swimmer Aimee Willmott has admitted that competing in the 400m freestyle was always going to be a difficult test following a busy week at the Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old, who has won two silver medals and a bronze in Glasgow so far, failed to qualify from her heat after finishing the race in 4:12.28.

"I always knew that the last day was going to be the hardest," Willmott told reporters. "Putting 400m at the end of a meet after such a busy week was always going to be hard, but some of the other girls had 800m free last night and they managed to pull it out.

"I just didn't have enough in the tank to pull it out in that third 100m and really make my move."

Ahead of tonight's final races, England currently have 24 medals from the pool.
