Russia's Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina have won the gold in the Olympic synchronised swimming duets.

The world and European champions went into the final as the clear favourites, with scores carried over from Sunday's technical routine.

Ishchenko and Romashina impressed the judges with a puppet-themed routine performed to music from the films Suspiria, Amelie and Sleepy Hollow, receiving a final score of 197.100.

Spain's Ona Carbonell Ballestero and Andrea Fuentes Fache picked up silver for a tango-themed repertoire that earned them 96.900 for a final score of 192.900.

China's Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou claimed the bronze, edging out Canada by a margin of just over three points.

Team GB's Jenna Randall and Olivia Federici performed a routine inspired by the ravens of the Tower of London, finishing in an admirable ninth with a score of 177.270.
