Team England squash star Nick Matthew has expressed his pride at being chosen by his fellow athletes to fly the flag during the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday evening.
The 33-year-old, who scooped two gold medals at the Delhi Games four years ago, was named as the team's flag bearer in Glasgow this afternoon.
"The buzz word is 'pride' and that's exactly what I feel," Matthew told reporters. "I'm so proud to be leading out that team. I think I start Thursday morning, so that's going to be the challenge, but I'm aware of that.
"I really want to enjoy the moment and use it as a positive rather than being worried about that. I need to make sure that I get a good night's sleep, bring down the adrenaline and euphoria and realise that we're here to perform on court ultimately."
Matthew's participation in the Games was thrown into doubt due to a knee injury, but he is now ready to compete following surgery last month.
