Team England's Nick Matthew: "No excuses not to perform"

Team England's flag bearer Nick Matthew hails the athletes' camp, telling Sports Mole that he has "no excuses" not to perform.

Three-time world squash champion Nick Matthew has insisted that there are "no excuses" for him not to perform due to the high quality care provided to the competitors at the Commonwealth Games.

The 33-year-old will take to the court on Thursday, one day after he leads his fellow Team England athletes in front of the crowds during the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

"It's amazing," Matthew told Sports Mole. "In all the houses, we've got a great little area. I've walked through most of the village now and, I'm biased, but Team England's is by far the best part.

"Everything's catered to our needs - [so much] detail has gone in. We've even got a bottle recycling service [for] our drinks bottles that we put all of our funky liquids and electrolytes and things [in].

"They just go to ridiculous lengths to make sure we have everything we need. There's a hundred physio beds, ice baths, gyms - everything we need within our own bit, so couldn't want for anything more really. So, there's no excuses not to perform on the court now."

Matthew, who recently underwent surgery on a knee problem, moved to the top of the world rankings for the first time in 2010.
