England's Peter Barker issues Nick Matthew warning

Team England's Peter Barker says that he will "give it his all" if he comes up against Nick Matthew in the semi-finals of the squash event at the Commonwealth Games.

Peter Barker has issued a warning to fellow Team England competitor Nick Matthew, saying that he will "give it his all" if the two meet in the squash semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

The 30-year-old secured a straight-sets win over Malaysia's Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan earlier today to book his place in the last eight of the competition.

"To win 3-0 any day is a good one," Barker told reporters. "I was down in the first set but that was the only time I was down. I'm quite a physical player, I just put a few hard rallies in and he felt the effects a bit more than I did."

On his potential meeting with England flag bearer Matthew, Barker added: "It is a cliche, but all the matches now are really tough. I've got to play Cameron Pilley - I've lost to him before so I've got to be on my game before I can start getting excited towards playing Nick.

"But that's the aim and then it's anyone game from there. I will give it everything I've got if I'm playing him in the semi-final."

Matthew advances through to the quarters with a 11-4 11-5 11-8 triumph over Alan Clyne.
