Mark Selby's World Snooker Championship reign was ended by qualifier Anthony McGill's shock second-round win in Sheffield this evening.
The Scot opened up a 10-6 lead in the afternoon session and then held firm to secure a 13-9 victory which took him into the quarter-finals.
It is McGill's first time at the Crucible and he had already beaten compatriot Stephen Maguire 10-9 in the first round.
He told reporters: "I'm just ecstatic. To beat the world champion at the Crucible, I just can't believe it. No-one expected me to win. I wasn't expecting myself to win, I was just hoping to put up a decent fight and try my best.
"I knew if I gave everything my mind would have been at ease whatever the result To beat Mark 13-9 is just a dream. I knew it wasn't over even when it went 12-7. He's not world champion for nothing.
"It seems like every time I win a game it's the biggest win of my career. Fingers crossed it keeps happening."
Selby, who beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in last year's final, becomes the 16th first-time champion to fail to defend their title.
