Ronnie O'Sullivan drops out of the top 16 for the first time in almost two decades.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has dropped down to 17th in the world following a four-month break from snooker.

The Rocket, who has not played since securing a fourth world title in May, now sits in his lowest ranking for almost 20 years.

Rumours that the 36-year-old is planning to retire intensified over the summer when he announced that he was taking some time away from the sport.

However, O'Sullivan has previously expressed his desire to continue playing indefinitely despite his refusal to enter a formal contract.

O'Sullivan defeated Ali Carter 18-11 in the Crucible final to claim his fourth world title back in May.
