Belarus's Stsiapan Papou seals sambo gold

Belarus's Stsiapan Papou beats Amil Gasimov of Azerbaijan in the final of the men's -74kg sambo in the European Games.

Stsiapan Papou has given Belarus their ninth gold medal at the European Games in Baku, winning the men's -74kg sambo event at the Heydar Aliyev Arena this afternoon.

The 31-year-old looked the stronger from the start as he dominated Amil Gasimov of Azerbaijan in the gold medal contest.

Beaten semi-finalist Azamat Sidakov of Russia and Georgia's Kakha Mamulashvili will share the final place on the podium after winning the bronze medal matches.

It is the first event in the Soviet martial art not to be won by the Russian Federation.
