Russia's Yana Kostenko survives a scrappy bout with Kalina Stefanova of Bulgaria to win sambo gold at the European Games.

Russian Federation's Yana Kostenko has won a scrappy bout with Kalina Stefanova of Bulgaria to clinch gold in the women's -60kg sambo event at the European Games.

The 27-year-old made a bright start to the contest before her opponent received three warnings in quick succession for illegal moves, allowing Kostenko to see out the win.

Katsiaryna Pakatenka of Belarus, who was beaten by a narrow margin by Kostenko in the semi-finals, beat Shahane Huseynova in the first bronze medal match to also secure a spot on the podium.

There is also a bronze for Daniele Hondui of Romania after she defeated Yaiza Jimenez Lopez.
