Sam Warburton 'to sign Wales central contract'

Sam Warburton could be one of six Wales internationals to be offered central contracts by the WRU.

Wales captain Sam Warburton is set to be one of the nation's first elite players to be centrally contracted, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims that the forward will be offered a deal worth £300,000 a year, which is beyond the financial reach of his current region, Cardiff Blues.

Warburton is believed to be one of the six Welsh internationals to receive central contract offers from the WRU with Alun-Wyn Jones, Adam Jones, Rhys Priestland, Scott Williams and Leigh Halfpenny also approached. However, it is reported that Halfpenny is likely to sign for European champions Toulon instead.

The captain of the 2013 British and Irish Lions that beat Australia last summer could also be loaned back to the Blues as part of the terms of his deal.

Wales kick off the defence of their Six Nations crown against Italy on February 1.
