Saracens 40-22 Exeter Chiefs

Saracens secure third spot with a 40-22 win over Exeter Chiefs in the final round of the season.

Saracens beat Exeter Chiefs 40-22 to finish in third place, while the Chiefs miss out on the playoffs by ending the season in fifth.

A third-minute penalty from Gareth Steenson put the away side ahead, before Owen Farrell missed a chance to bring Saracens level on 10 minutes.

Farrell made no mistake from his second penalty two minutes later and brought the scores level at 3-3.

A try from Tom Johnson and conversion by Steenson on 15 minutes restored the Chiefs' lead.

Two penalties on 28 and 33 minutes from Farrell, after he had missed one on 19 minutes, brought Saracens right back into the game.

Steenson missed a penalty on 36 minutes and the teams went in at half time with the away side leading 10-9.

A strong opening 10 minutes of the second half saw Saracens race into the lead, thanks to tries from Rhys Gill and James Short, as well as Farrell's two conversions.

Alex Good increased the lead further on 62 minutes with a try and Farrell was on target again with his conversion.

A Charlie Hodgson try seemed to out Saracens out of sight on 62 minutes.

However, the away side pulled themselves together to form a late surge when Chris Budgen scored a try on 73 minutes. Steenson converted after to make the score 40-17.

A minute later, a try from Matt Jess made the scores 40-22, which was how the game ended.

Saracens finish in third place on 68 points, while Exeter Chiefs miss out on a playoff spot, finishing in fifth place.
